Building the skills, identity, and decision-making needed to move forward

Homies Unidos Denver uses character development as part of our Community Violence Intervention and youth empowerment work. We help young people strengthen the skills, values, relationships, and decision-making that support positive choices and create pathways away from violence.

Our approach focuses on helping youth understand who they are, how they respond to challenges, and how their choices affect themselves and the people around them.

Our Approach

Character development at HUD is relationship-based, culturally responsive, and connected to real-life experiences. Rather than simply teaching a set of traits, we create spaces where youth can practice these skills through mentoring, group discussions, teaching sessions, creative programming, community engagement, and everyday interactions with trusted adults and peers.

The goal is to help young people build the character, skills, relationships, and opportunities they need to make positive decisions and move toward a safer and more empowered future.
